Tomatillo Hot Sauce

My mom gave me bags of hot peppers and tomatillos, so obviously I had to make hot sauce. This is my favorite hot sauce I have made so far! it is VERY spicy, sweet and delicious!

Tomatillo Hot Sauce

WARNING very spicy

2 tbsp olive oil
1 onion
15 shishito peppers
1 jalapeno pepper
4 tomatillos
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar

2 tbsp raw honey
1 tsp salt

Dice the onions and tomatillos. Cut the stems of the peppers and cut into small pieces. In a small pot, sauté onion in olive oil on medium heat. Once the onion is translucent, add the peppers, tomatillos, honey, vinegar, and salt and cook on low heat for 30 minutes. When the vegetables are mushy, remove the vegetables from the heat. Once it cools, add them to a food processor and process until smooth.

  1. I used to have a nice garden and grew about 8 different varieties of peppers. I even had a chili pepper poster and two chili pepper cookbooks, but never heard of a shishito pepper before. This doesn’t sound very spicy with just one jalepeno, but I’m from New Orleans, so I like everything very spicy.

    I’ve never made homemade hot sauce before, but growing up my mom made tomatillo salsa every summer. Ill have to try my hand at this.
