Losing Weight While Working a Desk Job

I grew up living a very active life. I was on sports teams for every season and felt sluggish if I sat inside for a day while it was raining. When I started my first “big girl job” after college, I was nervous about sitting all day and had fears of gaining weight and losing focus of my healthy life style.  I had to find ways to keep healthy and active while working eight hours a day. Thankfully, I stayed in shape and have become much more focused on what I am eating and what I am putting into my body on a daily basis. I am happy to share some tips with you!

Tip 1: Drink water!

Water is one of the most essential elements to living a healthy life. The body is made up of 80% water! Many ailments, such as fatigue and headaches, can be cured by just drinking a glass of water. Water keeps you full and prevents you from over eating. It also helps remove toxins from your body, while supporting digestion and nutrient absorption. I try to keep a bottle of water at my desk at all times, so I am reminded to drink water frequently.

Tip 2: Prepare your meals before work

Preparing your lunch and snacks before work can help you portion your meals, as well as save money. I bring a lunch and dinner to work so I am not starving and pressured to over eat when I get home. I bring healthy snacks as well. My new favorite is roasted chick peas, which are very easy to make!

Tip 3: Make time to work out

Working out five times a week can help keep your body at a healthy weight and lower your risk of many diseases. It can also help improve your sleep quality and increase your appetite. You go for an easy walk for 30 minutes during your lunch break or squeeze a workout in at your local gym. Luckily, my work has a gym in our building so I am able to work out for an hour every day on my lunch break. I usually run for 30 minutes and do a quick ab or leg workout afterwards.

Tip 4: Exercise on the go

All the extra exercise counts! I always take the stairs and park far away (unless it’s raining). It can help you lose extra calories and keep you active throughout the day.

  1. This is such a brilliant post. I totally agree with everything you have said….and, aren’t roasted chickpeas just the best. I have a tray of them roasting in the oven right now, as we speak ! 🙂
